Boarding School
Even though there are only 4 Boarding Schools in Denmark they are amongst the best in the world, with top teachers and very well-prepared students who often get into the best universities.
Boarding schools in Denmark are mostly from Pre-IB level – from 14 years old, and their purpose is to prepare the students to achieve their best grades in order to have access to the best opportunities. Not all students are accepted in the boarding schools, they must show a high academic level as well as a good level of maturity and willingness to learn.
Parents usually choose this option if they have demanding careers or if they want their kids to have a high standard education and personal development. Usually, each school has a restricted number of nationalities that they can have, and Danes pupils, so they offer a balanced multi-cultural environment.
Students applying to a Danish boarding school will almost always start by the Pre-IB program to make sure they are ready to their IB program.
Pre-International Baccalaureate
               This first year is equivalent to the first year of upper-secondary school and there is a big emphasis in Math and English subjects and students will be divided in two levels regarding their skills. Danish language is mandatory and for this subject, students will be divided in three levels regarding their fluency.
International Baccalaureate
After showing that the have achieved the necessary skills in their Pre-IB course, students will move forward to their IB. IB will be equivalent to the second and third year of upper-secondary school and will prepare students for higher education. As part of the IB program students must participate in CAS program, standing CAS for Creativity – Action – Service and making sure that students evolve in the various skills besides academic education.
In order to be accepted in a Danish boarding school, students must prove their previous high level in Math and English and their motivation, maturity and willingness to learn.
Undergraduate
English-taught bachelors are not as common in Denmark as English-taught masters but not impossible to find!
Danish universities give to their students the opportunity to have hands on-the-job while studying, what promotes a best learning and preparation for their professional future.
There are five types of higher institutions in Denmark – Universities, University Colleges, Business Academies, Artistic Higher Education Institutions and Schools of Maritime Education and Training.
Masters
Masters in Denmark are extremely popular specially among those looking for a research-based degree. It has the duration of two years and always combines theory and practice.
You can find a lot of masters that are English taught, that is why it is such a popular destination for international students looking for a master’s degree. There is a large variety of subjects to choose from and you will love their innovative teaching methods.
The Master of Arts (MA) and Master of Science (MSc) are the two most popular taught options. You will also find MBA programs.
Academy Profession (AP)
As the name tells us, this type of degree aims to prepare students for a profession, having a strong practice side. It lasts 2 years and regularly is offer to those looking to pursue business and industry careers.
Top-up Degree
Often seen as the continuation of an AP for those who finally decide to continue studies, a top-up degree takes about 1 ½ years and will concede to the student a Professional Bachelor Degree.
               Professional bachelor’s degree
A focused in profession preparation degree, that will than be the result of the AP plus the top-up degree. Students who have already a better idea of what profession to follow often choose this type of degree.
               University bachelor’s degree
The most common type of bachelor with the duration of 3 to 4.5 years depending on the institution and course chosen and most of times including internships to balance the practice and the theory. These academic bachelors are normally undertaken within one or two subject areas. Most popular bachelors in Denmark are Bachelors of Science and Bachelors of Art.
