12th year abroad

What is it

High school is the level before Higher Education and in most countries the minimum required for young people to achieve. It will also open doors to students when applying to the university and the course of their dreams.

A good number of students decides to go abroad to finish their high school in destinations like the UK and USA. Why is that you ask? Studying abroad will not just pop-up in their curriculum but will enable them to experience an international education and environment. This is the perfect path if they want to apply for a degree abroad as a preparation. Students decide to do it, usually, on the last year of high school or even after it, what is called a Gap Year.

During this year abroad students will emerge in another culture, language and education system while living with a local family.

Benefits

Benefits

There are a range of benefits if you decide to do it, especially if you do it abroad:

Self-development

It takes courage to go abroad when you are just a teenager but what students will learn from it will give them powerful weapons when it comes to their personal development.

Certainly, they will be “adopted” by a family who will make sure that the students make the most of their experience but living in a country that is not theirs will make them gain their autonomy and be confident.

New perspectives

The student will have to adapt to a new everything – new school and system, new language, new culture and friends. But this will make him a better individual with an improved vision and understanding of the world, a global citizen.

Traveling opportunities

Being in a new place with a local family will for sure come along with the opportunity of together explore the country and get to know the habits and traditions. Students will not just gain new parents but new siblings, uncles, aunts and cousins to visit!

Cost?

Cost?

The cost of going abroad for one year depends on factors as:

  • Type of School – Public or Private
  • Type of Accommodation – mainly host families but there can be school residences options
  • Location – a big city or a countryside area
  • Extras – for example, some students ask for places where they can keep practicing a particular sport

For example, for an USA program we can find options from $8,000 to $80,000 per year. There are options for everyone.

Without a doubt, USA, Canada and UK are the most popular destination for High School/Gap Year programs since students feel more comfortable with the English language rather than other languages.
