The name boarding comes from the idea of “room + board”, this means that students (called boarders) normally study and live in the school throughout the school year. Boarders spend their daily life with their fellow partners, studying, eating, and sharing the same sleeping space. In some cases, the students prefer not to spend the night in the institution and to go home by the end of the day, these are called day boarders.
While the most common age to enter to a boarding school is 12, we can find options from an early age or just from 16 years old to prepare the students for higher education. This offer depends a lot on the country where the school is.
Parents usually choose this option if they have demanding careers or if they want their kids to have a high standard education and personal development.
The boarding schools’ facilities are exquisite, places like we have seen in movies. Century-old buildings, traditional architecture but modern classrooms and equipment. The accommodation arrangements are amazing, students can choose to stay together or in a single room, but boys are separated from girls in the dormitories.
There are communal areas for meals and extracurricular activities, which are an important part of the boarders’ education, developing other than academic skills.
